Flags of the Day

Today is Liberation Day in Hungary; the date in 1812 when the legislature of the Orleans Territory, which in a few weeks would become the State of Louisiana, accepted the terms of the Act of Congress to create admit the territory as a State; Flag Day in Monaco; and Independence Day in Senegal. The Flag Act of 1818 was adopted on this date, finally establishing that the US flag would have 13 horizontal stripes, and one star for each State in the union, new stars to be added on the 4th of July following the admission of new States. Today is also the Commemoratiuon of Saint Isidore.

I always thought the Louisiana flag was nice, but that it would be nicer without the banner with "Union, Justice, and Confidence" at the bottom. I think one of the "rules" of flag design is minimal, if not no, use of words.
