Historic Flagpole

Flagpoles can be the object of historic preservation, as is the case with a 100 year old pole in Livermore, California.

A salvaged section of Livermore's historic downtown flagpole will be rededicated at a new Carnegie Park location on Friday, marking the 100th anniversary of when the pole first went up on Sept. 9, 1905.

Although the old wooden flagpole was too structurally weak to be saved in its entirety, local history buffs are elated that two usable sections could be made into a 57-foot pole -- about half its original size -- for use in nearby Carnegie Park.
